My first adult career was spent as an independent advertising and marketing agent and I've been teaching student success courses at University of Central Oklahoma since 2007.Learning rather late in life a passion for teaching, I balance my time with post-graduate work on gang and bully prevention in our communities and workplace wellness. I have a Master of Education degree and am working on a second, Master of Science in Wellness Management. On campus, I help first year students get off to a productive start and also help students on academic probation get back on track. On December 28, 2002, I ended a 35-year nicotine addiction. While at the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Medical Center I learned how to help other smokers become nonsmokers. I've operated an online peer support group with over 1,000 members from around the world and have helped hundreds of smokers make the transition back to being tobacco free. Through involvement with the American Heart Association's Heart Walk the last 4 years, I enjoy getting people to walk. A client company is "walking" across the country from their office in East Hanover, NJ to their office in San Diego, a 2,980 mile trek. I became a victim of an unprovoked knife attack on October 29, 1999. The next seven years were spent reacting to symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder. It took many years to make meaning of the traumatic attack, but once the healing process was set in motion, I began experiencing post traumatic growth. |
