Walking. It's the easiest, cheapest, surest, best way to manage weight and even reverse high blood pressure and lower bad cholesterol.

And it requires no special training -- you learned how to do it long ago. If you walk at least 30 minutes a day, three days a week you can become more heart healthy in a hurry.

Yes, you'll become healthier right away. Instant and continuous results. One foot in front of the other.

The benefits of a 30-minute walk are many. Visit aarp.org or American Heart Association and you'll be amazed at how many there are!

The best part of walking on a daily basis is that it costs you absolutely nothing (assuming you already have suitable walking shoes).

There are no dues, no classes, just one foot in front of the other. It's that easy!

I have reached a huge milestone in my life, and I have walking to thank for it.

A little over seven years ago I quit a 35-year smoking habit. I weighed 165 pounds at the time. We all know that people who become nonsmokers tend to put on some weight as part of the process.

I went up to 180 pounds, and I did not like myself very much. When I had enough I looked around to see what I could do to bring my weight back down.

Walking to the rescue!

I am very proud to report today that I have now reached my pre-quit weight of 165. Walking on a daily basis, coupled with reducing or eliminating visits to fast food restaurants, has allowed me to reach a healthier weight.

If you'd like to lose some weight put on a pedometer, and get out there!
